Meet Hamlet VIII, The Algonquin Hotel, New York City, America
MEET THE CAT: HAMLET VIII
Meet the most famous cat in New York City to kick off the new year at Hotels With Cats! From rags to riches, Hamlet VIII was found in a feral colony on Long Island and now delights the guests of The Algonquin Hotel in New York attending birthday parties, fashion shows, and is even looked after by his own Chief Cat Officer! Hamlet enjoys special meals on holidays and receives fan mail from all around the world, including Japan, Australia and Russia.
But Hamlet isn't the only kitty to cause such a fuss at The Algonquin Hotel as he reigns from a long lucky line of rescue cats who have called the luxury hotel their home. The Algonquin Cat was believed to originate in the 1930’s, when a stray wandered into the hotel for food and water. After the hotel acquired an out-of-print book written by the first general manager, Frank Case, a chapter was discovered about a cat named Billy. The hotel is now proud to say the lineage of The Algonquin Cat dates back to the early 1920's totalling 11 resident cats!
The lovely Ginger boy took the reigns in 2016 after Matilda III retired after seven years. Hamlet VIII, is the first Hamlet in 40 years and is an orange short hair domestic cat adopted from Bideawee animal shelter. He has settled into right into hotel life with his super friendly nature and dashing good looks. To follow his adventures at The Algonquin Hotel, Hamlet can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
